GlossaryWhat Is LLM Visibility? Definition and How to Measure It
Definition: LLM visibility is how often, and how accurately, an AI chatbot mentions, cites or recommends a brand when answering relevant questions.
How it is measured
It is an outcome, not a technique. It is measured by running a fixed panel of realistic prompts across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and similar tools, then scoring each response: not mentioned, mentioned, or recommended and described accurately. Our guide to tracking AI search visibility explains the method.
Why it varies by platform
A brand can be well represented in one assistant that relies heavily on live search and nearly absent from another with a smaller search footprint. For that reason LLM visibility should be reported per platform and per set of prompts, never as one blended number.
Why it matters
It is the metric that GEO work is meant to move. It sits alongside, and is different from, traffic and rankings, because many AI answers are read without any click.
What to do next

Frequently asked questions
How do I measure LLM visibility?
Run a fixed set of realistic buyer prompts across the major AI assistants on a schedule and score each answer for whether the brand is mentioned, recommended and described accurately. Compare results over time rather than relying on a single response.
Is LLM visibility the same as a Google ranking?
No. There is no single position inside an AI answer. You are either mentioned and described accurately or you are not, and results vary by assistant, wording and user.
