Automation · CRMChoosing a CRM for an Indian SME: what actually matters
Most CRM comparisons focus on feature checklists that barely matter in practice. The CRM that wins for an Indian SME is rarely the one with the most features — it's the one your team will actually update every day. Here's what to weigh instead.
What actually predicts success
| Factor | Why it matters more than feature count |
|---|---|
| WhatsApp integration | If leads and follow-up happen on WhatsApp, a CRM that doesn't sync with it gets bypassed within weeks |
| Mobile-first UI | Field sales and small teams live on phones, not desktops |
| Setup simplicity | A CRM that takes months to configure delays adoption past the point anyone cares |
| Cost at your team size | Per-seat pricing that looks fine at 5 users can be brutal at 25 |
The adoption problem, not the feature problem
Most failed CRM rollouts aren't a software problem — they're an adoption problem. A powerful CRM nobody updates is worse than a simple one used religiously, because stale data actively misleads decisions. Before comparing platforms, ask: will the team actually log into this every day, or will it become another spreadsheet nobody trusts?
What to actually evaluate
- Time to first value. Can a sales rep see a benefit in their first week, or does it take months of configuration first?
- Automation hooks. Can it trigger WhatsApp follow-ups, lead scoring and reminders without custom development?
- Exit cost. How hard is it to export your data if you switch later? Lock-in should factor into the decision.
The real question isn't "which CRM has the most features" — it's "which one will still be updated daily six months from now." Optimize for that.
