Google Analytics 4 setup guide for Indian businesses

By Reckona AIUpdated 29 July 20268 min read

GA4 replaced the older Universal Analytics with a fundamentally different, event-based data model — and a lot of businesses either never migrated properly or have it installed but never look at anything beyond the home screen.

Getting the property set up correctly

StepWhat to get right
Data stream setupOne stream per site/app, correctly matched to your actual domain
Enhanced measurementTurn on automatic tracking for scrolls, outbound clicks, site search, video engagement
Link to Search ConsoleConnects your analytics data with search query data in one place
Internal traffic filterExclude your own team's visits so they don't skew conversion numbers

The events actually worth tracking

Reports that matter vs ones to ignore

Worth checking regularlyUsually a distraction
Conversion events by channelReal-time user count (interesting, rarely actionable)
Landing page performanceRaw pageviews without context
Traffic acquisition by source/mediumSession duration alone (easy to misread)

Set up conversion events before you need the data, not after. GA4 can't retroactively track an event you didn't configure — the businesses that regret this find out during a campaign review with a data gap they can't fill.

Analytics setup is part of every Web practice build — see our Search Console guide for the companion tool most businesses also under-use.
