Your first business website: a no-nonsense checklist

By Reckona AIUpdated 24 July 20267 min read

Most small businesses either skip a website entirely or overspend on one with features nobody uses. Here's the honest, minimum-viable checklist — what earns trust and enquiries, and what to skip until you're bigger.

What actually matters

Must haveWhy
Fast, mobile-first designMost Indian traffic is mobile; slow sites lose visitors before they read anything
Clear enquiry pathA phone number, WhatsApp link and form — visible on every page, not buried
Google Business ProfileOften earns more enquiries than the website itself for local searches
Real photosStock imagery reads as generic; even phone photos of the actual business build more trust
Basic SEO foundationsTitle tags, schema, a sitemap — so the site is findable at all

What to skip for now

The credibility test: would this site make you trust the business more or less than a phone call? If a visitor's first impression is "is this real?", nothing else on the site matters until that's fixed.

After the basics: WhatsApp

For most Indian SMEs, WhatsApp captures more enquiries than a contact form ever will. A catalog, auto-replies and after-hours capture close the loop the website starts.
