How to audit marketing content before you publish it

By Reckona AIUpdated 25 July 20267 min read

Most teams produce content constantly and review it rarely — there's no time, and no consistent rubric. That's how thin, off-brand, or outright wrong content gets published and quietly damages trust. Here's the checklist worth running before anything goes live.

The four-part audit

CheckWhat to look for
SEO fitDoes it target a real query, with the answer in the first paragraph, proper headings and no thin sections?
AI quotabilityIs there at least one clean, standalone sentence an AI engine could lift and cite accurately?
Factual accuracyAre stats, claims and product details current and correct — nothing that will age into a wrong AI citation?
Brand consistencyDoes the voice, terminology and positioning match everything else you've published?

Why this matters more in the AI era

A factual error in a blog post used to risk one reader's trust. Now, an AI engine can lift that error and repeat it confidently to hundreds of future searchers as fact — making inaccurate content a compounding liability rather than a one-time embarrassment. Auditing before publishing catches this while it's cheap to fix.

Making the audit sustainable

A manual review of every piece doesn't scale past a handful of posts a month. The teams that keep quality high as volume grows use a lightweight scoring pass — content quality, SEO gaps and factual flags surfaced automatically, with a human making the final call, not reading every line from scratch.

The one-question test: if this were the only page an AI engine ever read about you, would it describe you correctly? If not, fix it before it publishes, not after it's already been quoted.
