Entity SEO: making your brand machine-legible to AI

By Reckona AIUpdated 24 July 20268 min read

Before an AI engine can recommend you, it has to understand what you are — a distinct entity with clear attributes. Entity SEO is the unglamorous foundation of AI visibility, and the step most brands skip. Here's what it is and how to build it.

What is an entity?

An entity is a distinct, well-defined thing a machine can reason about — your company, with a clear name, category, location, products and relationships. Search and AI engines maintain knowledge graphs: vast maps of entities and how they connect. If your brand isn't a clear node in that graph, engines guess — and guessing is where hallucinations and omissions come from.

How entity SEO feeds GEO

Entity clarity is the base layer of Generative Engine Optimization. Quotable content and citable data give engines a reason to name you; entity clarity makes sure that when they do, they get you right. Skip it, and you can earn citations that describe you incorrectly — worse than no citation at all.

First move: audit your name, category, address and description across the top ten places they appear. Fix every inconsistency before you invest in content — you're building on the foundation, not the roof.
